A handcrafted Character Oak desktop, made to order from wide‑board oak selected for its natural grain, knots and warm tonal variation. Each desktop is shaped, refined and finished by hand. The edges are softened for comfort, and the surface is sealed with hardwax oil and artisan beeswax to create a smooth, durable finish suited to daily use.

about The Wood
Character Oak is chosen for its natural variation and warmth. Each board is hand‑selected for grain flow, stability, and tonal depth. Knots and movement are retained where possible, preserving the organic story of the timber.
Our wood is kiln‑dried and sourced from a local Lincolnshire sawmill, bought in full tree‑width, long sections. This allows us to match the right wood with the right project — and with your personal preferences — ensuring every desktop reflects the natural character of the tree it came from.
Before work begins, we show the oak in its raw form so you can see the grain, tone, and natural features that will become your desktop. This step ensures you’re completely happy with the timber selection before shaping and finishing begin.

Once approved, the boards are prepared and joined using dowel and glue construction, ensuring a strong, seamless bond that maintains the natural flow of the wood.
Every surface is sanded through multiple grits to achieve a tactile, refined finish. Natural voids or deeper character features are stabilised with clear epoxy, maintaining the integrity of the wood while providing a practical, durable surface.
Each desktop is completed by hand, ready for finishing and final inspection before delivery.
Finish and protection
Each desktop is finished with two coats of Fiddes Hard Wax Oil (Natural) for a durable, low‑sheen surface that protects the oak while keeping its warm, natural tone. Once cured, we hand‑buff the piece with a light beeswax polish to bring out the depth of the grain without adding shine. It’s a traditional, long‑lasting finish that feels smooth, natural and easy to live with.
Delivery and lead time
Made‑to‑order pieces take 7-14 days in the workshop before dispatch. This allows time for shaping, sanding, finishing and the various drying and curing times involved in the process.
