We hand‑select full tree‑width Pippy Oak boards from our local sawmill, choosing each one for its natural movement, grain quality and the distinctive clusters of pips that give this timber its character. Straight‑edge pieces are taken from calmer sections of the board, where the grain runs clean and the burr clusters sit in gentle, expressive patterns. Each board is checked for tone, movement and balance before shaping begins, ensuring the finished rack feels consistent, modern and true to the timber.

You’ll see cat’s‑paw markings, tiny burrs and subtle shifts in the grain — all naturally formed as the tree grew. These features are not added or enhanced; they are simply revealed through careful shaping and finishing. Every board is unique, but all are chosen for the same quiet, expressive Pippy Oak character that suits the straight‑edge profile so well.

Each straight‑edge rack is shaped, sanded and finished entirely by hand in our UK workshop. The board is first cut to length, then the front face is refined with a gentle concave lift that gives the piece its clean, modern profile. This shaping is done slowly, allowing the natural grain movement to guide the final form rather than forcing the timber into a straight line.

The edges are softened by hand to create a smooth, tactile feel, while keeping the distinctive Pippy Oak markings fully visible. Every burr cluster, cat’s‑paw detail and grain transition is revealed through careful sanding rather than heavy machining, preserving the expressive character of the wood.

Once the shaping is complete, the rack is finished with hard‑wax oil applied in thin, even coats. This brings out the depth of the grain while keeping the surface practical for everyday use. Solid cast‑iron hooks are fitted last, along with recessed keyhole fixings that allow the rack to sit tight to the wall with no visible screws.

Once the oil has cured, the piece is hand‑buffed with artisan beeswax for a smooth, tactile feel that’s comfortable in daily use. The finish is durable, easy to maintain, and designed to age gracefully as the oak develops its own deeper tone over time.

The straight‑edge rack is available in lengths from 30–80 cm, shaped from a single full‑width board for a clean, modern profile. Each piece measures 10 cm deep and 2.5 cm (1") thick, cut from solid Pippy Oak selected for its natural movement and balanced grain.

You can choose Traditional Coat Hooks or Treble Hinge Hooks, both made from solid cast iron and selected for everyday practicality. Every rack arrives ready to hang, fitted with two recessed metal keyhole plates and supplied with bear‑claw screws for a secure, tidy installation.

Each rack is made to order, with a 7–10 day crafting time before dispatch. Once ready, it is carefully wrapped, boxed and sent using a fully tracked courier service from our Lincolnshire workshop.

UK delivery typically arrives within 2–3 business days after dispatch. Orders to the USA and Canada usually arrive within 3–7 business days, with all duties prepaid so your parcel moves through customs smoothly and without delay.
